Jan 2 2015 – For the first time ever we will begin this review with the conclusion:
Verdict 5 out of 5 – Quite simply the most amazing #RealRock bar show we have ever seen highlighted by a jam with both bands on stage at the same time.
Rewind…
It is a great and rare occasion when 2 of T-Mak World’s Top 10 Indie Bands of 2014 play on the same bill so we had no hesitation to kick off 2015 with a bang. Hangovers from New Year’s Eve were apparently gone as The Hideout was packed for a double bill of the highest order. The occasion was a kick off to Stone River’s extensive tour of Europe that is taking place January and February of 2015. The interesting dynamic with these two bands is that Patrick Wilken, the bassist of TimeGiant is also the touring bassist for Stone River. In fact TimeGiant will be joining Stone River for a few gigs in Germany with Wilken playing with both bands (as he did tonight).
TimeGiant kicked off the night with a blistering set which featured a bunch of new songs that were played to a large audience for the first time in Toronto. We have reviewed TimeGiant multiple times on T-Mak World so all we will say is they tried it out as a 3 piece tonight and it worked really well! The new songs are marked with an asterisk below.
Gotta Rock and Roll* Need Your Love* I Am The Fire Stronger Than Before Blind Drum Solo Close My Eyes* Waiting For The Sun* Pressure The Real Thing
Stone River were the headliners tonight and with TimeGiant’s Wilken on bass the club was buzzing as the smell of incense took over the stage. The ritual indicated that the band was ready to elevate us to a higher musical plateau and they really accomplished the goal. As good as the set was, one song, Euphoria featured all the members of both bands on stage delivering what T-Mak World considers the coolest single moment in our bar show coverage. 7 excellent musicians on stage all jamming away to a killer song – man was that amazing. We can only hope that when Stone River plays again in Toronto they don’t hesitate to do this again and make it a staple of the Toronto rock circuit. TimeGiant Stone River – wow.
