September 12 2014 – This weekend legendary Canadian singer/songwriter, David Wilcox, spent some time in Niagara. He was here to play at the Niagara Food Festival, an event that ended with fireworks. But despite the enviable foods and pyrotechnics, the real story was what Wilcox did earlier that day.
Two months ago today, 24 year old Jordan Houle—a massive David Wilcox fan— got into a near fatal car accident. He was flown from Welland to Hamilton by helicopter, wherein he subsequently received a bi-frontal bone flap removal of his skull to relieve the pressure developing on his brain. It was this surgery that saved his life, but he was not expected to make substantial recovery. David, having heard about the accident, sent Jordan a package full of merchandise as well as a personalized note wishing him a swift recovery. And as if that wasn’t enough, Wilcox took the time out of his busy schedule to visit Jordan this weekend.
The meeting was short but sweet, Wilcox took photos and signed albums. After talking with Jordan, Wilcox performed an acoustic version of Bad Apple to a room of no more than ten people. His talent has not faded over the years, and his voice, unassisted, resonated throughout the conference room. Before departing, Wilcox insisted that Jordan let him know about his recovery throughout the future.
It may be that David Wilcox is a renowned Canadian icon and respected musician, but this time, it is his humanitarian efforts that are garnering attention. And as for Jordan, the doctors are referring to him as a miracle: he is walking again, is fully himself mentally and he continues to progress every day.
