July 3, 2014 – Rock and Roll Over is a flamboyant group who recreates the elaborate KISS live performances, featuring the blood spitting and smoking guitars KISS is famous for! Named after KISS’s fifth studio album, Rock and Roll Over performed a set of high energy, high intensity music and the Kiss army who made it out to the Rockpile East on this Thursday night were treated a special show.
After a few technical difficulties, a somewhat familiar KISS intro was heard… ‘You wanted the best — you got the best — the hottest KISS tribute band in the world’ – Rock and Roll Over was announced and a huge backdrop with a big KISS logo dramatically dropped to the floor and the band started their set with the traditional KISS concert opener “Deuce”.
Rock and Roll Over, Toronto’s tribute band uses authentic KISS guitars, authentic KISS wardrobe, and plays with an authentic KISS sound!
Paul Taskas (Paul Stanley) – easily recreates the vocals and guitar sound that Paul Stanley was famous for.
Kon Zakzanis (Ace Frehley) re-enacts the theatrics that Frehley was famous for. Zakzanis has a collection of authentic KISS guitars (purchased directly from KISS) and uses them on stage!
RC Ricci as the demon Gene Simons provided a spectacular performance and had the audiance screaming and cheering as he re-enacted the blood spitting that Simons was famous for.
Kosta Borovilos as Peter Criss did an outstanding job. Every hit of the skins felt as if they were going right through you!
On this special night we were treated to a multitude of special events. Drummer Deen Castronovo (drummer of Journey) made a special guest appearance and gave us a drum solo that was to be marveled at.
Paul Taskas’s daughter came out on stage to tickle the keys for a fabulous rendition of Beth which was sung Castronovo.
Rock and Roll Over consists of:
- Paul Taskas (Paul Stanley) – Vocals, Guitar
- RC Ricci (The Demon) – Bass, Vocals
- Kon Zakzanis (Ace Frehley) – Lead Guitar, Vocals
- Kosta Borovilos (Peter Criss) – Drums
- Special Guest: Deen Castronovo
Rock and Roll Over entertained the audience with a selection of smash hits such as Detroit Rock City, Calling Dr. Love, and Cold Gin.
My money is on Rock and Roll Over becoming the premier KISS tribute band in Canada. This show delivered EXACTLY what I expected. A high energy set of classic KISS anthems and party type atmosphere! These guys will quickly become the benchmark for other KISS tribute bands! I would strongly recommend going to the next Rock and Roll Over show at the Rockpile east scheduled for September 13, 2014. You will not be disappointed.
