October 25 2013 – Fans of vinyl, record collectors and first time buyers, mark your calendars for the Toronto Downtown Record Show on Sunday November 3rd at the Estonian House (958 Broadview Ave – steps from the Broadview TTC station) from 11-4.
We have 5 pairs of tickets to giveaway for free entry to the show so email us at contests (at) tmakworld (dot) com and put VINYL ROCKS on the subject line. Winners notified Saturday November 2nd and their name will be on the guest list at the door.
Vinyl or records are a very important medium for the classic rock we love at T-Mak World and no fan of bands like The Beatles, Rush, The Who, Led Zeppelin or Pink Floyd should be without a turntable and a nice little collection of their favorite albums. The pure pleasure of flipping a record over or reading the lyrics on an album sleeve is something that simply can not be replaced by crappy sounding MP3’s. The Toronto Record Show is a great place to satisfy your needs.
We will be there and our want list right now includes Atomic Rooster, the Buckingham Nicks album, and early Pink Floyd. We had a chance to speak to show organizer Aaron Keele about the show itself and vinyl in general.
- Hi Aaron thanks for taking the time to talk to us, tell us in your words what the Downtown Record Show is all about please.
AK – Our show is a celebration of all things Vinyl. If you like records, well…. we do too and it shows. All of our dealers are lovers of the black crack themselves, and you’ll find a wide variety of music to suit your taste, whatever that might be.
- Have you noticed the attendance numbers growing over the last few years which would indicate that vinyl is indeed making a comeback?
AK- Attendance has always been good at record shows, as Vinyl never really died. I’d say the most obvious change is that younger people are back at it in larger numbers than in the last 10 years, and especially younger women. It used to be a bit of a boys club, and that’s changing, and I’m definitely glad to see that.
- T-Mak World focuses a lot on classic rock – will our readers be able to find all the Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin and The Who records that they want at the show?
AK – If you love Classic Rock, it’ll be here. It’s one of the most popular sounds that people want on Vinyl, so each dealer makes sure to carry some. Whether it’s Floyd and Zeppelin, or much more obscure bands that made similar music during the same time period, you’ll find it.
- What can someone expect to pay for a Led Zeppelin record?
AK – Zeppelin albums in good condition should be priced at about $15 to $20 each for Vintage pressings, for a clean and playable copy. When you’re dealing with absolute first pressings and import copies with bonus features, then you might be getting into a higher price point.
- Do you recommend people get there early for best selection?
AK – Getting there early is a must. Vinyl hounds are a dedicated lot, and you might miss out on the titles you’re looking for if you come later in the day. That being said, sometimes the best items are missed by the buyers before you, and great deals can be scored mid way through the day.
- Aaron thanks again for the time, and thanks for putting together such an incredible show. Just for fun – what is your favorite classic rock album of all time?
AK – The impossible question…. that’s what you just asked. Giving it a bit of thought, I’d probably say Led Zeppelin “Houses Of The Holy”. The astonishing mix of Rock and, to my ears, a bit of a Jazz approach…. and the incredible production quality. A sure fire winner I never get tired of.

Saw all of the things on your want list early on in the day, so hopefully you managed to find ’em all before they were scooped up!
