Michael White and The White – Toronto’s Led Zeppelin Tribute |
January 14 2013 – By far the most featured artist on T-Mak World is Michael White and his band The White. We have been covering his Discography series at Toronto’s Sound Academy since day 1 and have only great things to say about the concert series. For those new to the site, Michael White and The White is the world’s most prolific Led Zeppelin tribute band and in fact the only tribute band officially endorsed by Jimmy Page and Robert Plant. Every month White selects an album from Led Zeppelin’s discography and plays it end to end.

Tonight’s show is the latest Led Zeppelin release but hopefully not the band’s last. Celebration Day is the name of the DVD release of the O2 reunion show in 2007. We spent a great deal of time reviewing that DVD/CD release and suggest you check that review out right here. Furthermore as Toronto’s largest classic rock website, it should be no surprise that Celebration Day appeared on our Top 10 Albums of 2012. The openers tonight were a new band named Suns of Stone which consists of two members of the now defunct Wise, Young & King (a good hard rock band from Ottawa). They belted out a very good hard rock set and we have some pictures of them here. Now if only I could get to see TimeGiant open up a gig for The White!

The setlist tonight was essentially a “best of” Zeppelin and was no surprise to anyone who owns the DVD or follows Michael White on Twitter (@MichaelWhiteTO) who revealed a picture of his hand written setlist the day before the gig. Here is what was played:
Good Times Bad Times
Ramble On
Black Dog
In My Time Of Dying
For Your Life
Trampled Under Foot
Nobody’s Fault But Mine
No Quarter
Since I’ve Been Loving You
Dazed And Confused

As usual the show proved to be a euphoric delight for Zeppelin fans (and Toronto has many of them as evidenced by the monthly 1000 person turnout). Michael White is an incredible vocalist and showman and the fans love to see him belt out Robert Plant better than Plant does these days. We strongly endorse and recommend seeing Michael White and The White at the Sound Academy because to be honest hearing Zeppelin live at a bar is as good as it gets for a classic rock fan.
