What lengths would you go to save a childhood friend ?
For Michael (Peter Cilella) it would seem to the ends of the earth as he puts his life on hold for a week to wean Chris (Vinny Curran) off meth. Thirty something friendships can be so complicated and this in-depth character analysis of true friendship meshed with the unexplained, forms the foundation for this indie thriller Resolution.
Convention is the order of the day as Michael find and then locks up Vinny right where he squats, in a sparsely abandoned cabin on an Indian reserve to begin the cleansing process. Slowly the realization that a series of interconnected cryptic messages in the form of VHS, diaries and a reel of film are starting to influence their decisions transforming this seemingly staid intervention in the last vestiges of dread.

Co-directors Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead are the smartest guys in the room and it shows. This meta-horror transcends genre stereotypes with smartly layered subtext woven into a thinking man’s narrative that forces you to engage. Strong performances by Cilella and Curran carry the film where other actors may have stumbled.

Verdict: 4 out of 5. A meta-horror intervention in the woods. Resolution’s indie spirit and ambiguous ending leaves just enough on the table to keep audiences buzzing to solve this spiraling riddle.
