November 19 2013 – With bittersweet emotions we present the final review of the tremendously successful Michael White and The White Discography series from The Sound Academy. For reasons unbeknownst to us the run of 22 shows is over and boy do we have fond memories of our time with Michael White, Dano Murray (guitars), Davin Goudie (bass, keys) and Brian Wall (drums). As a fitting tribute to the end of an era we thought it would be fitting to recap all our coverage of Michael White and The White shows during this run of the Led Zeppelin Discography series in which we caught and reviewed 15 of the 22 shows.
October 2011 – Led Zeppelin 1
January 2012 – Led Zeppelin 2
February 2012 – Led Zeppelin 3
April 2012 – Led Zeppelin 4
May 2012 – Houses Of The Holy
June 2012 – Physical Graffiti Part 1
August 2012 – Best Of Early Led Zeppelin
October 2012 – The Song Remains The Same Part 1
November 2012 – The Song Remains The Same Part 2
February 2013 – In Through The Out Door
March 2013 – Coda
May 2013 – Celebration Day
July 2013 – Led Zeppelin 1
September 2013 – Led Zeppelin 2
November 2013 – Led Zeppelin 4 (this review)
Aside from the discography series we also interviewed White in February 2012 and covered a non discography show called Orchestral Zeppelin in March 2012.
Tonight’s show had an surreal energy and had the most enthusiastic crowd we have seen at these shows. Michael White and The White delivered a set which had a mix of all the Led Zeppelin IV songs and a good selection of Led Zeppelin II. The band was on top of their game tonight and they close out the Sound Academy chapter of the Discography series at the top of their game. Especially excellent renditions of When The Levee Breaks, Since I’ve Been Lovin You and Stairway To Heaven kept the club shaking to its foundation. The full setlist is below:
- Immigrant Song
- Black Dog
- Four Sticks
- Gallows Pole
- Tangerine
- Battle of Evermore
- Going To California
- When The Levee Breaks
- Misty Mountain Hop
- Since I’ve Been Loving You
- Stairway To Heaven
- Bron-Y-Aur Stomp
- Rock and Roll
Encore
- Celebration Day
- Whole Lotta Love
So it has been said that all good things come to an end, we are happy to announce that the Michael White Discography series is not ending but simply moving to The Opera House! A much more intimate setting that is on the TTC line with cheap parking, and lots of food options pre or post show make the new venue a much better choice in our opinion. We can’t wait to see the first show on December 27th. We leave you with an interview with Michael White right after tonight’s show! Check it out
Verdict: We saw 15 of Michael White’s 22 shows at The Sound Academy and loved every minute. Bring on The Opera House!
