March 18 2013 – Another month another pilgrimage to the epicenter of Led Zeppelin music in Toronto. Michael White and the White rolled out another stupendous show, this time with Led Zeppelin’s 10th record (and first post Bonham’s death) Coda. The band packs in the Sound Academy once a month to highlight a Led Zeppelin album (they play all the songs in that album), and then present a second set of various Zeppelin songs.

The band really impressed with Coda – an album full of incredible but less recognizable songs. Surely an album for Zeppelin aficionados (like the music editors of T-Mak World are). I could see if a casual Zeppelin fan walked in on this show for the first time they would be dissapointed in not hearing Stairway To Heaven, Black Dog or Rock and Roll. We on the other hand craved to hear the less played songs by the four musical magicians of Michael White and The White. Needless to say Michael White is the phenomenal vocalist who the band is named after, Davin Goudie is the bassist and keyboardist, Danno Murray is the guitarist and Brian Wall is the drummer.

After being shaken to our foundations with a most impressive rendition of In Through The Out Door last month, we didn’t think that the White could have topped that performance but if one thing we have learned is to never be surprised at what this band can pull out. Aside from really cool deep cuts found on Coda, we saw the coolest thing this band ever did (and we have seen dozens of their shows throught the years). The drum solo song Bonzo’s Montreaux started off with Wall playing the drums. He was very quickly joined by Murray on his left to play some other drums. Shortly after that White got to Wall’s right side and joined in, and yup you guessed it Goudie joined in as well. All four musicans were playing various drums and people were left with jaws dropped. This should clearly be a staple in future The White shows as its entertainment value was through the roof! Amazing drum orchestra guys.

The second set consisted of some great choices and less played songs like Hey Hey What Can I Do, and Travelling Riverside Blues. What is quickly becoming one of the strongest songs the band plays, When The Levee Breaks really kicked the party atmosphere at the Sound Academy up a notch. Murray lets loose and starts dancing around the stage and it really is a treat to watch.

Another month, another amazing show by the king of Led Zeppelin tribute shows – Michael White and The White. Next month (April 5) they will be presenting a special show featuring on the “best of later day Zeppelin”. Fingers crossed they deliver Bonzo’s Montreaux again.
