August 18 2023 – Once again the Canadian National Exhibition (CNE) has opened up for the annual unofficial end of summer ritual. This year the CNE runs from August 18 to September 4th. Going to The Ex is a Toronto tradition that reminds all of us long time residents of the city that cold weather and/or school is coming up very shortly so we better enjoy the amazing warm days and nights.
The CNE offers a variety of things to do including rides and games at the Midway, a great variety of food throughout the fair, entertainment such as the skating or the dog show, shopping for anything from mops to saunas, and of course our favorite – concerts! We will be going down a few times this year to check out the music and enjoy a cold beer.
This year the CNE has a super special attraction on its premises that is 100% must see for our readers – The Pink Floyd Exhibition: Their Mortal Remains which actually started June 16th, 2023 at the Better Living Centre inside Exhibition Place. This is a travelling museum-quality exhibit of Pink Floyd artifacts from the band’s earliest days to present day. We have a separate review of this exhibit so check it out for much more details.
Aside from the above mentioned exhibit our concert picks for this year at the Bandshell are: Coney Hatch with Kim Mitchell on Tuesday August 22nd, The Sheepdogs on September 1st and Classic Albums Live presents The Dark Side of the Moon on September 2nd. At the always fun Midway Stage the mostly cover band standouts include Crush on August 24 Michael White doing Led Zeppelin on August 28 and The Blushing Brides playing today August 18th. Below we have images of the lineups but you can always check the official website to confirm. Check out how wicked The Blushing Brides sounded.
