Sep 1 2015 – The Canadian National Exhibition (CNE) continues with great music at The Bandshell. Tonight (August 29 2015) we caught Scott Weiland and The Wildabouts. The vocalist of Stone Temple Pilots and Velvet Revolver stormed the stage with his solo material and treating fans to the old tunes as well.
There has been some controversy with Weiland lately – an awful version of Vaseline surfaced and the singer was accused of being drugged up during the performance back in April. Furthermore they more recently cancelled their European fall tour with no real reason other than “administration and production issues”. We were looking forward to see how he would perform tonight.
The night kicked off with Weiland wearing shades and holding his megaphone. Sounding a bit off tune, Weiland really did seem to give it his all. Unfortunately he no longer possesses that distinguished heavy voice of the hard rock days of two of the greatest rock bands of the last 30 years. Perhaps his well documented drug abuse has really taken its toll?
The band was actually very good and when Weiland was able to sound like he should the show had many highlights and was an overall really good time. The CNE is really great for it’s varied musical offerings, and we are happy that the hard rock/grunge scene was represented this year.
The setlist was fairly even between solo material and Stone Temple Pilots songs (including a Velvet Revolver tune). Here is how it looked tonight:
The summer nights are slowly coming to an end for yet another year but with the CNE you get some killer music with Monster Truck a big higlight on the calendar. Let’s go to the Ex.
