Mar 30, 2015 – Public Animal, the best heavy psych rock band in the country opened for The Muffs at the Horseshoe on Saturday. At $25, it was a fairly expensive ticket if you weren’t interested in the pop band that followed, but no question, it was still worth every cent. Accurately described by guitarist Ian Blurton himself in a tweet earlier in the day, they, and he in particular, are the proverbial bull in a china shop. No one plays or sings with close to the ferocity, virtuosity or passion than Blurton brings to every show.
The band recently returned from their first East Coast trip. I always love reading the inevitable tweets that always follow their first shows in a city and in this case, Gus’ Pub in Halifax succinctly summed it up in five words: “Public Animal. Oh my god.” After seeing them easily a dozen times, that’s still my reaction. Frankly, it’s something of a minor mystery why they aren’t yet headlining the ACC rather than playing the Horseshoe.
Here are a few pictures from the show.
