TORONTO, October 17, 2014 — When it comes to scary movie villains, Freddy Krueger tops the list as the scariest of all time, according to Redbox Canada’s 2014 Halloween movie survey.
One in four Canadians said the famous slasher from the “A Nightmare on Elm Street” franchise gave them the most chills. He was closely followed by the Saw’s Jigsaw (20%) and Friday the 13th’s Jason (15%).
Redbox asked Canadians which scares them the most about horror flicks and their answers were frightening.
Halloween traditionally has Canadians on the search for the scariest movies, be it a slasher classic or a new box office thriller.
“With Halloween fast approaching, it is exciting to discover which characters have most Canadians hiding under the covers,” says Kate Brennan, senior communications manager for Redbox, Canada’s largest provider of DVD rentals. “These results really show what make us jump and scream when watching horror films.”
It turns out 28% of Canadians fear movies with crazed murderous villains the most followed by demon flicks (25%) and movies with creepy children at the lead (15%). Surprisingly zombie movies ranked ranked last at only 8% on the scare meter.
