July 3 2014 – Artists funding their own recording is not a new trend – Kurt Cobain wrote to dozens of record labels asking them to sign Nirvana and that the band would even pay for their own recording costs. In today’s day and age Crowdsourcing is a phrase to define the public (or the crowd in this case) will fund a project before it even starts. The big one lately that was interesting was Neil Young’s Pono music player that raised over $6 Million (their goal was $800K).
Today we get word about one of Toronto’s best hard rock bands going at it with RocketHub. Check out our latest review of the band from a recent gig here. Full information is at the link here. please do support this band – they rock!
Over the last year David Barrett Trio has financed their first full length live DVD and their second full length CD. The concert was captured with an 8 camera shoot, co-ordinated by lighting director Peter Genrick, and included a spectacular laser show donated by Howard Ungerleider at Production Design International. The DVD was recorded and mixed by Sascha Tukatsch, edited by Nick Sewell, and colour corrected by an amazing crew at Bling. Currently, the authoring and artwork are now being completed by Paul Reid at HotHouse Creative Inc.
The new album entitled DB32, has been recorded in house at drummer Sascha Tukatsch’s production space BAHM. It features 10 new songs with guest performances by vocalist Michael Sadler (Saga), and guitar virtuoso Tony McManus. Alex Lifeson (Rush) n has continued to give valuable support and guidance, and the trio is thrilled with the new material which is once again all instrumental, with the exception of the acoustic ballad Coppermine.
The production of the DVD and CD are paid for, and now with this new RocketHub campaign the trio hopes to raise money that will pay for mastering and manufacturing costs of $5000.
