March 11 2014 – It was about 2 1/2 years ago that Roger Daltrey of The Who brought a solo show to Toronto that blew us away. That show was Tommy, a rock opera which captures the late 60’s/early 70’s and bottles it for future generations. We reviewed that show here and had this information in that review “Tommy is a rock opera which was released as a double LP (1969), a film (1975) and even a Broadway musical (1993). The album has sold 20 million copies worldwide and features the monster hits Pinball Wizard and See Me, Feel Me. The story of Tommy is about a dead, dumb and blind kid that becomes the pinball champion of the world, gets cured of his catatonic state, and rises to fame as a messiah of a cult due to his apparent enlightenment. “
Eagle Rock Entertainment now deliver a wicked Blu-Ray to go along with the legacy of Tommy and the film is edorsed and supported by The Who. This is an important piece of information because we have seen many “unofficial” band movies and to be blunt they suck. The movie also features interviews with the surviving members of The Who, Roger Daltrey and creator of the piece Pete Townshend. John Entwistle is also on the film giving his thoughts about the piece. Sensation is a BBC documentary and the Blu-Ray includes new material as well as killer 1969 TV show footage with music from Tommy as well as interviews.
Verdict: We love these Eagle Rock releases and they are considered must haves in our music and movie collection. The great entertainment value packed in the Blu-Ray makes this Sensation – The Story of Tommy a mandatory purchase for The Who fans.
