January 4 2013 – The illustrious Michael White continued his discography series in a brand new venue and rolled out Led Zeppelin’s 02 Reunion concert on Friday December 27 2013. For those unfamiliar, Michael White and The White are a Toronto based Led Zeppelin tribute band that go through Zep’s discography one record at a time and have shows every 4-6 weeks. Up until now they were most recently playing the cavernous Sound Academy. The shows were great in that the venue had an incredible sound and light show but to be honest it was too big, too far out of the way, and never had that hot, sweaty, dark vibe that Zeppelin club shows should have.
Enter the Opera House on Queen Street East. A dark, moody theater style venue. The first impression is that this venue sure felt like something Led Zeppelin would have played in 1968 before they started to fill the biggest venues in the world. Neither the sound or the lights could match the big bucks system of The Sound Academy but who cares, this is about sweaty rock and the perfect union of White and the Opera House is a match made in heaven. Take away the dude in the washroom that you have to tip to get paper towels and the venue is as good as it gets.
As usual Michael White, Davin Goudie (Bass, Keys), Brian Wall (Drums) and Dano Murray (Guitars) electrified the audience with a top-notch performance. They previously played Celebration Day back in May of this year and we reviewed that one here.
We are excited about the new venue and can’t wait to see many shows there, we leave you with some images from the night.
