Today we received details on a cause that we fully support – a Philippines benefit concert in Toronto. Multi-Platinum selling artists and one of Rolling Stones Magazine 10 Greatest Canadian Rock Stars, Saga will headline a benefit concert that we are lovingly calling TO ROCK-AID. This is a grassroots benefit (put together by the band themselves not some corporate sponsor) and all proceeds will directly go to the Doctors Without Borders Charity.
As Toronto’s biggest classic rock focused website we pledge our full support to this cause and put out a plead to the hundred’s of bands and artists we have covered to also show some support by linking this story on their Facebook and webpages, as well as tweeting about the show. Rockers of Toronto unite and let’s make a difference (as small as it may be) to the world.
** Musicians of the Toronto rock scene please step up and support the cause and radio stations (and in particular) Q107 and 94.9 The Rock, please use your influence to get out word of this cause.**
It is great to see Canadian rockers unite for a benefit and Saga’s lead singer Michael Sadler states that “apart from the obvious overwhelming human tragedy attached to something like this, I have family ties to the Philippines and have personally been there for extended periods of time, so am familiar with the conditions there, which are bad enough on the best of days“. When asked about the charity chosen for this event and how people can be assured that funds wont be mismanaged Sadler told us “I did a great deal of research concerning exactly that, and I found that Medecin Sans Frontieres (Doctors Without Borders) was the only one that claims to send 100% of the money they receive to where it’s supposed to be going. A claim I now believe after speaking first hand with one of their representatives.” T-Mak World fully believes this will be a great night and Sadler tells us “let’s just that because this was all put together fairly quickly, there could well be some surprises that I’m not aware of myself so it should be quite an entertaining evening!”
UPDATE – The current lineup for this show is as follows: Saga, Lawrence Gowan, Jacob Moon, Sean Kelly, Carpet Frogs, Neil Chapman (guitar slinger extraordinaire), The Tom Waits Appreciation Congregation (featuring Marty Morin), and the David Barrett Trio with more to be announced.
