This post is a personal one. Last week I said goodbye to an old friend and she is sadly being missed.
I purchased my 1977 Classic White Corvette in 1998. She was a bit of an oil burner back then, but I slowly brought her back to her glory. By the time I was done, she was once again a head turner. Each time I would take my 77 for a spin I would always get thumbs up from passerbys and the reaction this car would draw was one of excitement! The C3 body style is probably the most loved Corvette. This shape was introduced in 1968 and ran until 1982. C3 coupes featured the first use of T-top removable roof panels. The 1977 model was the last year the vertical back window was used and the first year that leather seats were introduced. Back then the 1977 Corvette had a 0 to 60 time of 6.8 seconds for both the L48 and L82 models. Not super quick but still decent considering the restrictions that were put in place during the energy crisis of the 70’s.
This car has gone through some modifications in order to get the 0 to 60 number down to a more respectable 5.5 seconds. An Edelbrock racing manifold, Edelbrock carburetor, and true duel exhaust system along with flowmaster mufflers were installed to help the car get to approximately 300 horsepower from its stock 195 horsepower. Back in 1977, dual exhaust pipes were actually routed to a single catalytic converter, then split again leading to dual mufflers and tailpipes. I removed the single catalytic converter and ran two straight pipes containing small catalytic converters on each pipe. This really helped performance.
Only 610 Corvettes with the colour configuration of Classic White exterior and Brown interior were imported into Canada in 1977.
As far as I know, This is the only 1977 where a rear wing was molded directly on to the car. I have been to numerous car meets and Corvette shows and to this day I have not seen another vette with this wing molded directly onto its rear end.
I will always know where to find my beloved Corvette and I know Peter will enjoy and take care of her as much as I did.
One last shot of the GREAT WHITE SHARK!
