September 23 2013 – The great Bavarian Oktoberfest festival is ready to kick off in Munich – an event that gets over 6 million visitors and has multiple beer tents on a fair ground. Closer to home us Canadians that can give Germans a run for their money on beer culture have to settle for much smaller scale events. Local brewery Steam Whistle kicked off the fun with a great Oktoberfest party down at their brewery on Saturday September 21 2013. The night featured entertainment on a big stage with a mix of music including the ever popular George Kash and the Oktoberfest Band. The popular Ein Prosit saying was in full effect tonight (it means to your health in German) and the litre sized steins were flowing with Steam Whistle Pilsner. For anyone who is wondering about the eternal question of Oktoberfest – why is an event held in September called Oktoberfest? The answer is that the festival in Munich runs for a number of days and always ends on the first weekend of Oktober.
Great time was had by all in attendance and here are some scenes from the night.
