August 5, 2013 – We at T-MAK World are big fans of Rik Emmett. He’s still one of the best in the business and lately he’s been teamed up with an extraordinary guitarist in his own right, Dave Dunlop. T-MAK World interviewed both last August in an interview you can read here. We caught the incredible show at Sound Academy later that month and that review is here.
On Saturday, Emmett headlined the Saturday schedule of Etobicoke’s Lakeshore Mardi Gras, a free festival at Lakeshore and Kipling, and obviously we weren’t about to miss it.
Joining Emmett and Dunlop in the band are Steve Skingley on bass and Tom DeLong, playing his second show with Emmett, on drums. The show and set list were largely similar to last year’s show at Sound Academy, classic Triumph songs with a sprinkling of Zeppelin, Derek and the Dominoes and James Gang (Rocky Mountain Way was of course also a huge hit for Triumph) and also, as part of a medley of Magic Power, the Allman Brothers, Beatles, Cream and others. Skingley, Dunlop and DeLong all took extended solos during the instrumental Three Clouds Against The Moon, but the best part of the show was the interactions of the two incredible guitarists which captivated the crowd.
