Just as the city prepares to enter into its annual film-fest frenzy, there’s one event that will appeal to droogs and devotchkas far-and-wide. On Friday, September 6th starting at 10 p.m., Toronto-based music marketing agency Young Lions Music Club will turn Toronto’s newest concert hall into a re-creation of A Clockwork Orange’s Korova Milkbar as they reinterpret the look and feel of one of the biggest cult films ever made through art, music, and all the moloko you can drink.
A Clockwork Orange, the classic dystopia written by Anthony Burgess and made for film by Stanley Kubrick, will be brought to life in party form, featuring actors, art installations, live music acts selected to suit the theme, and DJ Brendan Canning of Broken Social Scene spinning thematic cuts aimed to incite dance moves that closely resemble the old ultra-violence.
The one-of-a-kind event is the work of Young Lions Music Club, a Toronto-based music marketing agency that has been recently featured in The Globe & Mail, Toronto Star, BlogTO and The Grid. Having created a “cult-like following” amongst 20-something music fans in the city due to their outside-of-the-box event concepts and focus on community building.
Kubrick II: A Clockwork Orange is the second in their annual series of parties themed after the famous director’s films. Last year’s Kubrick I: The Shining was considered by many media and fans as the highlight of the TIFF party scene.
The night features local indie rock & pop buzz act Weaves whose recently released music video for Motorcycle is garnering buzz across the music media and blogosphere.
It all takes place at Adelaide Hall, a newly minted two-floor music venue located in the heart of TIFF madness, at Adelaide and John Street, a 5 minute walk from TIFF Bell Lightbox theatre.
