August 19 2013 – While the big media outlets are unified in their social irresponsibility towards feeding the obesity epidemic in their reporting, we here at T-Mak World prefer to focus on music, and this year’s Canadian National Exhibition (CNE) aka The Ex, has much to offer. No deep fried bacon here folks – just music to cleanse the soul and for us that remedy is delivered in the form of good ole Rock N’ Roll.
At the Midway Stage (located on the southwest lot outside the Direct Energy Centre) The Rattles took the stage in their Salute to the Beatles show. Full on in the 1962 era garb the fab four (which were actually five because they had a keyboard player) nailed the essence of The Beatles and pleased the large crowd (that was actually overflowing into the Midway games area). The band nailed every song they delivered and proved The Midway Stage is an incredible spot for a beer stop during your visit to the CNE.
The bigger shows are found at The Bandshell and tonight The New Pornographers were the headliner. The Vancouver based Indie rock band delivered an excellent show that pleased both fans (that were up in front of the stage) and casual onlookers (that were resting on the benches a bit further back). Their distinct indie sound provided a great vibe and proved to be a perfect way to spend a late summer night by the lake. Note – the Ribfest trucks are right beside the venue so be prepared to salivate at the sweet smell of BBQ!
Upcoming shows we are very interested in – Lou Gramm the lead singer of Foreigner will be playing the bandshell on Friday August 23rd in a set that will deliver all the big Foreigner hits and our good friends of Druckfarben will be playing their complex breed of progressive rock on Tuesday August 27th at the Midway Stage.
