July 10 2013 – Ronnie James Dio – the name alone summons images of the world’s greatest heavy metal singer in his flowing white outfits with his hands up in the classic heavy metal horn salute. The pint sized powerhouse had a very successful run as the singer of Rainbow, Black Sabbath, and his own band Dio and his impact on rock was significant. Unfortunately he succombed to stomach cancer in 2010 at the young age of 67. This DVD commemorates the man at his creative peak in 1986 right after he had released his first three killer solo albums – Holy Diver, The Last In Line and Sacred Heart.
“Finding The Sacred Heart – Live In Philly 1986” was recorded at The Spectrum in Philadelphia on 17 June 1986 during the second leg of the “Sacred Heart” tour, which featured new guitarist Craig Goldy. The show was issued in an edited form first on VHS and then DVD. The Blu Ray is digitally remastered. It’s an extraordinary live show with a giant animatronic dragon towering over the stage and spectacular lasers and pyrotechnics. Ronnie James Dio is in fine voice as ever and the band deliver a blistering live performance featuring tracks from their first three albums alongside Black Sabbath and Rainbow classics. This will be a must-have release for any Dio fan – and in fact any rock fan. This Blu Ray has been played dozens of times since I received it and is one of my favorite concert films ever.
The lineup was Vinny Appice on drums, Jimmy Bain on bass, Claude Schnell on keyboards and guitarist Craig Goldy.
