June 1, 2013 – I had a dream…Crazy dream…I was traveling through time and space and was listening to a band whose music was bottom-heavy, loud, raw, and had a powerful electric style to it. Magic filled the air as Ozone Baby took the stage at Schuey’s Bar & Grill last night.
Someone asked me what I thought of the show and the only word that came to me was…WOW! There are fewer pleasures than a well-played set of songs dominated by an amplified guitar, bass and drums and Ozone Baby did not disappoint. They picked it up, laid it down and stomped on it. Nothing was forced, just good sounds and a fine performance. The band simply rocked!
Phil Naro the wonderful Emmy award winning vocalist of the band was at his best last night. The way he seized the audience’s attention from opening wails of the Immigrant Song to the melodic vocals during Ramble On he simply grabbed you and did not let go!
Lead guitarist Steve Major was amazing. His guitar was on fire throughout the show. Steve was remarkable imitating rock’s greatest guitar hero. Close your eyes and you would think Jimmy was in the house. Steve is that good!
Bassist/Keyboardist Enzo Lapadula and percussionist Glen Nash definitely deserve call outs. They were so tight and had everyone up on their feet gyrating their bodies to the rhythm. Enzo delighted the audience with an astounding bass solo and Glen was explosive on the drums.
It`s not often that the venue is reviewed, but Schuey’s Bar and Grill is one of Toronto`s best kept secrets until now. This is a friendly place with an intimate atmosphere. The in house sound system is fabulous. A great place to see a live show.
Few of us will ever get to see Led Zeppelin, but if you close your eyes you just might think you did. Ozone Baby is a first-class tribute band and a must see for any Zeppelin fan! In a word…WOW!
