June 13 2013 – Day 1 of NXNE came and went in a flash and we checked out 13 bands which you can read about here. Day 2 is actually the best day for us musically (remember we are a ROCK focused site) and we have dozens of bands to choose from. You can see our recommendations below (sorted by timeslot). You wont go wrong with any of these rock bands.

Heavy metal inspired by Judas Priest and Black Sabbath. Flashy riffs, operatic vocals, solo, and righteousness. You’ll think you’re back in 1979, so dress appropriately.

Authentic: Young Rival’s Journey Through Canada ***World Premiere*** 6:45pm The Bloor Hot Docs Cinema (506 Bloor Street West)
Follow Hamilton band Young Rival as they tackle the open road in the hopes of finding their place in the Canadian music industry. As they tour across Canada they cross paths with some of Canada’s favourite alternative bands and show what life on the road can really be like.

Tony Ho presented by TOsketchfest 11:30pm Measure (296 Brunswick Avenue)
Spotlighting some of the best sketch comedy troupes including Tony Ho. This darkly hilarious Toronto group has been called the haunted house of sketch with good reason. Equally funny and disturbing, Tony Ho is entirely unexpected and absolutely unforgettable.
That New York Show 8pm Yuk Yuk’s (224 Richmond Street West)
That New York Show features comedians Aaron Berg, Luis J Gomez, Dave Smith, Kaytlin Bailey and Dustin Chafin.
NXNE ART
Kyle Duffield, Trance 9pm Hashtag Gallery (801 Dundas Street West)
“Trace” is an interactive audio/video installation that allows its users to control both light and sound through gesture. Users face the lens of the projector and use their hands to control both the beams of light as well as sound so that they can create their own sound/light compositions.

In this presentation, Mavis Huntley will talk about how to sell your work, covering off topics such as who to involve, how to present and ensuring that your speaking points are spot on.
Women In Music: More Than Ever Before!

NXNE gave Melissa Auf der Maur free-reign to host a panel. She gathered an inspiring group of music makers, and professionals to discuss what it is to be a woman in the 21st century making music. She may be biased, but she truly believes that women are finally on the way to being THE FUTURE OF MUSIC AND THE WORLD.
