Founded in 1999 by actress and Torontonian, Tonya Lee Williams of The Young and the Restless, the first festival launched in 2001. For five days in April cineastes, filmmakers and industry professionals flock to ReelWorld for the best in documentaries, features, shorts, animations and music videos from Canadian and international film artists. ReelWorld’s red-carpet events and screenings have become a true celebration of community. Attendees mingle with celebrities including, Danny Glover, Robert Townsend, Eriq La Salle, Keith David, Adam Beach, Shabana Azmi and Sandra Oh. Its no wonder that over the years ReelWorld has compiled some impressive stats.

Furthering the ReelWorld brand, each September the Indie Film Lounge, an intensive two-day event recognizes 20 up-and coming filmmakers (E20s) from ethnically diverse backgrounds and prepares them to develop and launch their projects. During the Indie Film Lounge, ReelWorld connects each E20 with 200 industry decision makers before meeting one-on-one with up to 10 industry professionals who can help them launch their projects.
In the increasingly crowded Toronto film festival circuit, the ReelWorld Film Festival has carved out an untapped and much over looked segment of the film industry and provided the platform to showcase these stories for all to enjoy.
