IN A BLENDER MIX:
1. One part quaint isolated fishing village off the coast of Ireland during the rainy season.
2. Stir in a salty roux of local towns folk who fancy a tale or two along with liberal pints down at the pub.
3. Jettison one intergalactic ravenous space alien.
4. Add 40 gallons of blood.
5. Then set the blender to “Pulse” and you’ve created a rollicking brew of horror guaranteed to satisfy.
6. Garnish liberally with fear and Irish humour and you have the movie GRABBERS, the opening gala film at the 2012 Toronto After Dark Film Festival.

Erin Island is the setting of this sleepy fishing village where nothing every happens until fishermen start disappearing and pilot whales mysteriously are found beached. Compounding this, Garda Ciarán O’Shea (Richard Coyle) the local policeman who has made a science of being a functional alcoholic is having difficulty with his new partner. When Garda Lisa Nolan (Ruth Bradley) arrives she starts shaking things up by imposing her high brow position in the village The two try to find their footing as the investigation begins.
Paddy Barrett (Lalor Roddy) unwittingly captures one of these hybrid looking octopus with an extended darting tongue, but is unable to convince anyone of his discovery until Erin Island become over run. O’Shea discovers by accident that alcohol will kill it and keep them alive. So whats a remote Irish fishing village to do when confronted by this menacing beast, why go for the mother of all piss ups as they fight to stay alive.
