August 19, 2012 – Been busy days for Toronto’s reggae alt-rockers illScarlett. Last time we caught illScarlett, they played to a packed house at Bovine Sex Club as a secret special guest at NXNE in June.

On Tuesday, they’ll release an EP, appropriately titled “2012 EP”, produced by Matt Drake of the reggae band Dodger. On Saturday night they put on an incredible show at SublimeSummer with Sublime with Rome, an outdoor festival show at Fort York. And they’re in the studio now with legendary producer David Kahne (Fishbone, Sublime, The Strokes) working on their fifth album.

illScarlett fans are going to love “2012 EP”, it’s their best material since 2007’s gold album “All Day with It”. It’s hard to pick a favourite among the 5 infectious songs on the EP as they’re all solid, but “Livin’ Tonight” is a highlight. Fans of Sublime are going to love this song. “First Class” features fellow Torontonian KO who was also on the bill at SublimeSummer.
“2012 EP” will be available worldwide on August 21st for download on iTunes.

Immediately following their set illScarlett signed their new EP for fans. The line-up was enormous because the band took the time to chat with their appreciative fans.
Line-up for signing. Three quarters of the line was behind this point. |
Why the smile? Girls asking for parts of their anatomy signed. |
