The Taint from Troma Entertainment |
Feb 20 2012– Today we are looking at the DVD of The Taint from Troma Entertainment. If you are not familiar with Troma they make some awesome genre movies that are really worthwhile checking out if you are sick of typical Hollywood formulaic films. Our introduction to them was an interesting journey. It all started when we saw the world premiere of Astron-6’s excellent Manborg (reviewed here) at the Toronto After Dark Film Festival. In following the trail we discovered that Troma released Astron-6 Collection DVD, and we quickly fell in love with their unique and zany movie lineup. We plan on reviewing as many of their movies as possible.
The Taint opens up with a couple of close-ups of women’s breasts, very telling of the direction of the movie from the first moment. Within 5 minutes we see close up puking, a chopped up bloody penis, a serial killer taking a dump as he is running, and a chopped off head. Got your popcorn ready? Right from the get go you know that you are in for a bloody good ride.
Co-Director and Star of The Taint – Drew Bolduc |
The main character Phil O’Ginny (played by Drew Bolduc who is also the Co-Director, Co-Producer, Lead Actor, Writer & Composer) looks like a B movie Angus Young of AC/DC complete with school boy outfit. Anyways, we quickly find out that there is something weird going on in the water supply when Phil runs into Misandra played by Colleen Walsh (hidden innuendo perhaps? Misandra means man hater in Greek). Twelve days ago Misandra’s perfect gated community way of life gets shattered with her husband having a glass of water and screaming out “I hate women”. So there you have it, the movie is about a guy and a girl destroying women hating zombies. Ludicrous right? You bet, and we LOVE it! Word of caution – do not take the movie seriously, do not expect a cohesive story, and definitely do not expect anything resembling a Hollywood formulaic horror movie. Dan Nelson was Co-Director, Cinematographer and Co-Produced the film)
The Taint features lots of blood and gore |
The effects for a low budget movie are excellent. There is no shortage of gore with blood flying every few minutes, heads get bashed, brains get pulled out, needles in the testicles and even a mini cartoon sequence of some cute bunny rabbits in an animal testing lab. We really had fun watching this movie and next time you have a bunch of dudes hanging out for beers and movie night at your place put on this flick and have a blast. (Note: keep the women and children away). Currently the only place we found that sells the movie is the movie’s site but the DVD can be had for $10 and you can order it here. The DVD is light on extras (but who really cares) and aside from the main movie features just 2 trailers and the Directors’ Commentary.
The Taint |
VERDICT: If you find the thought of zombies with huge tools running around bashing in heads makes you giggle then this movie is a must for you. We loved it!
