Colin James
In a career spanning 25 years, Colin James has topped the charts as a pop vocalist, recorded an acclaimed blues album and led the swing revival with his Little Big Band, which he both fronted and produced. He’s written memorable hit songs and recorded distinctive covers of timeless classics, all the while continuing to sell out shows from coast to coast. He has traversed the genres of blues, rock, pop, swing and even gospel, becoming one of the most accomplished artists around. The release of his fifteenth album, Fifteen, earlier this year – a return to James’ full-blooded rock roots – is yet one more testament to his longevity and impressive career. James’ 1988 self-titled debut, featuring his two self-penned hits “Voodoo Thing” and “Five Long Years,” was the fastest-selling album in Canadian history. It won him his first Juno and an opening spot on tour with Keith Richards. His second album, Sudden Stop, featured his hit “Just Came Back,” which reached #3 on the U.S. radio charts and earned him the Juno Award for “Single of the Year.” Colin was next credited with launching the swing revival, thanks to his wildly popular Little Big Band, which has released four successful albums to date. http://www.colinjames.com/
Steve Strongman
There are reasons why Canadian blues artist Steve Strongman was the Maple Blues Award winner for Guitar Player of the Year in two consecutive years. There are reasons why he consistently packs venues across Canada for his performances. There are reasons why he was chosen as one of Hamilton, Ontario’s “Top 40 Achievers Under 40 Years Old” by the area’s major newspaper. Strongman was one of the featured artists of the week on popular roots music website The Alternate Root and featured on Sirius XM blues radio program B.B. King’s Bluesville, in the top 15 charts. In 2012 Strongman has performed for thousands of fans at festivals including Barrie Jazz and Blues Festival, Limestone City Blues Festival, Mont Tremblant International Blues Festival, Donnaconna Festival du Blues, Trois Rivieres en Blues and a coveted opening spot for the legendary Robert Cray. In early 2013, Strongman was the big winner at the Maple Blues Awards, taking home trophies for Guitar Player of the Year, Recording/Producer of the Year, (A Natural Fact, Produced by Rob Szabo), and the Socan Songwriter of the Year. He also won a JUNO for Blues Album of the Year for his recent release. Strongman led the National Maple Blues Awards nominations with six, including Electric Act of the Year, Acoustic Act of the Year, and Entertainer of the Year. He was also recently nominated for Blues Artist or Group of the Year for the 13th Annual Independent Music Awards – The SiriusXM Indies. http://www.
David Gogo
As one of Canada’s hardest working and most prolific blues guitar virtuosos, David Gogo has amassed a worldwide fanbase and an impressive list of accomplishments. He has earned four JUNO nominations, the 2012 Western Canadian Music Award for Blues Recording of the Year, the CBC Saturday Night Blues’ Great Canadian Blues Award for a lifetime contribution to the blues in Canada, and has twice been named Maple Blues Guitarist of the Year. He has played on stage with Johnny Winter, Otis Rush, Albert Collins and Bo Diddley and has opened for George Thorogood, ZZ Top, The Tragicially Hip, Buddy Guy, Little Feat and Jimmy Vaughan. In March 2013, he performed as the supporting act for blues legend B.B. King for the third time in his career, this time at the Port Theatre in Gogo’s hometown of Nanaimo, BC. Gogo has released thirteen albums to date and has been a guest on a number of recordings. He has composed music for television and major motion pictures and his songs have been performed and recorded by musicians worldwide. He continues to tour relentlessly, performing across North America and Europe in venues ranging from small blues bars to massive blues festivals. Whether he’s showcasing his blistering guitar licks and soulful vocals during an electric performance or drawing the crowd in with his humour and down-to-earth personality during an acoustic show, audiences everywhere can attest to Gogo’s outstanding talent. http://www.davidgogo.com/
