T-Mak World has extensive coverage of Canadian Music Week here
March 7 2013 –Canadian Music Week 2013 is almost here and we can’t wait for hundreds of bands to invade the bars and clubs of our fair city of Toronto as part of the festival’s Canadian Music Fest program. Admittedly the names are slightly confusing but Canadian Music Week is the master name of the festival that is composed of a film program (Canadian Music Week Film Fest), a comedy program (Canadian International Comedy Fest), a conference, awards shows, a trade show and a kick ass music festival called Canadian Music Fest (CMF) that runs between March 19-24 2013.
In 2012, T-Mak World initiated extensive coverage of Canadian Music Fest and we saw a total of 34 bands/artists and interviewed the following 10 bands as part of our Emerging Artist Spotlight series:
Our wrap up article from 2012 is here and we are excited to be back in 2013 and to add even more bands to our Emerging Artist Spotlight Series. Today we focus on a band from Quebec City, Canada and their CMF profile reads:
Dance Laury Dance was born in 2007 from the combined talents of Lap (drums), Max Lemire (vocals), Blake (guitar), Harry (bass) and Dagger Pat (guitar). Right from their very first jams, they had a clear objective: to follow the tradition of rock n’ roll in its purest form while developing a unique and distinctive sound. The band grew strong thanks to the experience of each of its members, who had all previously participated in other bands. Dance Laury Dance brought together five strong-headed musicians who were all determined to make their dream come true and to make a living from their music. So when things got started, they moved quickly and seriously. With their long hair, leather and distortion, the heirs to Motorhead, Guns n’ Roses and AC/DC were born!
Here is what they had to say to us:
1. Hey Dance Laury Dance, thanks for taking the time out to talk to us. Let’s start off with the obligatory introductions. Who’s in the band and what instrument does everyone rock?
DLD: Hey T Mak World! We’re a bunch of party dudes from Quebec City (so don’t you be surprise if you read weird sentences or some things making no fuckin’ sense!!!) Dance Laury Dance is, Max on vocals, Harry on bass, Blake on rhythm guitar, Phil on lead guitar and Lap on drums!
2. How about the history of the band, when did you get started and how did it happen?
DLD: DLD was born in Quebec City on January 13th 2007 in the middle of a ragin snow storm! Lap and Harry (and Ben who was the first DLD guitar player) called Max late at night to jam some new punk rock shit! We wrote two songs that night, DLD was born. The following year was a complete mess, full of booze and drugs, playing shitty shows, rolling in a broke down second hand truck with a fucked up tiny trailer in tow. We also had to deal with a few line up changes… Then one night in 2008 we decided to stop getting wasted BEFORE gigs and realize all this wasn’t going anywhere. The next day we kicked out the guitar player, asked our friends Blake and Dagger Pat to join the band and then wrote a whole bunch of new hard rock songs! We bought a kickass Chevrolet 3500 and a huge fuckin’ trailer, went on tour across Canada, released our first EP in 2009, played a bunch of clubs and festivals, met our manager Karl Emmanuel and built a solid fan base. Then we went in the studio again and released our first album Living for the Roll in July 2011, just two weeks after we had the great honor to open for Metallica on the Plains of Abraham in front of 130 000 people! This was the best day of our lives so far! Then after our 3rd Canadian tour, Dagger Pat left the band and Savage Phil took over lead guitar in January 2012. We are currently writing our second album and are going in the studio on may 20th !!!
3. Who are some of your musical influences?
DLD: Motörhead, Rancid, Pantera, AC/DC, Megadeth, RATM, Andrew WK, Guns N’ Roses…
4. Congratulations on being selected to play at Canadian Music Festival, what does the opportunity mean to you?
DLD: We share the stage with our good friends Diemonds and this is going to get messy! {Ed. Note – we had the Diemonds on the Emerging Artist Spotlight already as well here)
5. When and where is your CMF gig? And more importantly, why should a music fan come and see your show instead of all the other choices available to them at that time?
DLD: We play the Hideout on march 23rd with The Cunninghams, Jackson Firebird, Heaven’s Basement, Diemonds and Strangers! This is a rippin line up and the show is going to rock fuckin hard!! If you like hard rock music and party, you don’t want to miss this show!
6. What’s it like being on stage? Do you get nervous or are you thriving on the adrenaline (or somewhere in between)?
DLD: Stage = Home.
7. What does 2013 hold for you?
DLD: New album to come in September 2013 and then we hit the road big time! Stay tune on dancelaurydance.com and facebook for all the tour dates !!
8. Imagine that you were asked to be the opener for any band’s world tour (both current and historical). Which band and tour would be your dream opening gig.
DLD: Motörhead
9. How important is the performer/audience connection? Can you rock a show as hard for 10 people as if you could playing an 80,000 person festival?
DLD: It’s funny you ask this question because we always make a point on giving the same show whether there are 10 or 100 000 people in front of us! People paid to see a performance so they deserve a good show! That’s how we roll!
10. Where can people get your music/CD, is it being sold anywhere?
DLD: Yep! Itunes, HMV and all this shit… just look for Dance Laury Dance Living for the Roll !!
11. At the end of 2012 we published our picks for top 10 albums of 2012. Lists like those are always a reflection of personal tastes so if you were making the list what are some albums you would you have had on it?
DLD: Lamb of God – Resolution , Cancer Bats – Dead Set On Living , Baroness – Yellow & Green , Hot Water Music – Exister , The Sheepdogs – The Sheepdogs , ASAP Rocky – LongLiveA$AP , Converge – All we love we leave behind , AC/DC – Live at River Plate , Foxy Shazam – the Church of Rock N Roll, Bruce Springsteen – Wrecking Ball
12. Any closing remarks for our readers?
DLD: Come rage on march 23rd at the Hideout in Toronto!!! Party Hard!
Thanks so much to Dance Laury Dance. We hope that you can see them live at CMW – we certainly will.
