Ryan MacDonald of Alert The Medic and Joan Smith of Little Foot Long Foot |
February 27 2013 – T-Mak World presents Indie On Indie where we match up two musicians of different bands and give them the task to review one of the other band’s songs. In this ongoing series we will match up bands with similar styles of music, as well as bands on opposite sides of the musical spectrum. Kick back, listen to each tune and read what the other band has to say about it. If you have a suggestion for a cool match up or are in a band and want to be featured email us here.
- Artist 1 – Ryan MacDonald is the vocalist and guitarist of Halifax’s hard rock powerhouse Alert The Medic. The song he picked for Artist 2 to review is The Weatherman (pt.2).
- Artist 2 – Joan Smith is the vocalist and guitarist of Toronto’s self proclaimed cave rock band Little Foot Long Foot. The song he picked for Artist 1 to review is Neko Case Hate Fucks Kurt Cobain.
Little Foot, Long Foot’s, “Neko Case Hate Fucks Kurt Cobain”, showcases the bands ability to draw the listener in immediately. It kicks off with a classic organ sound, married with raw guitar tones and a great rhythmic progression. Just when you think you have it figured out, the groove cuts to half time for the choruses, displaying a spot on melodical dynamic.

The beginning of this song immediately makes me think, ‘Oh boy, I bet there is going to be a build!’ That’s because I’m a big sucker for a build, and I’ve never really managed to pull one off properly in my own songwriting. Ryan’s vocals are lovely – he’s adept at going up into his head voice without there being much of a noticeable break or change in quality.
