February 4 2013 – What does a rabid rock fan do when on the same night in Toronto, one “Must-See Gig of 2013” is happening, along with gigs from two of the “Top 10 Indie Bands of 2012“? Well see all three of them of course! Here is how our rockathon played out!
8:30pm – The Opera House
The night starts for a repeat performance of the massively talented Pink Floyd tribute show – Comfortably Numb. This show was amazing and you can read our 5 star review of the previous night’s gig right here. We won’t repeat our exact same thoughts for tonight’s show as we reviewed the gig in full yesterday. We were lucky enough to watch the first half of the show, and had to leave at the intermission. Tonight’s show was packed (even the balcony) and the sizable crowd were clearly having a blast.

11:00pm – Silver Dollar
After the appetizer of euphoric Pink Floyd, we rushed over to the Silver Dollar to watch our good friends from TimeGiant play again. TimeGiant has been covered allot here at T-Mak World and the classic rock foursome never disappoint. Tonight however they seemed to be performing at an elevated level than usual. The audience was thrown into a frenzy and we haven’t seen so many people dancing to hard classic rock since the hippie days of Zeppelin (not that we actually saw that but can only imagine). Tonight there must have been something in the water (or the beer) because this was the most solid we have seen TimeGiant perform since the first time we saw them at Canada Music Week 2012.

12:00pm – The Horseshoe Tavern
The exclamation point for the night was going to be In My Coma so we rushed over to The Horseshoe. We were told at the door that there was some trouble involving the police and a party bus, so things were running behind schedule. Instead of In My Coma taking the stage, we read that a band we had not heard of before were next up. Well sometimes the unknown is a great thing as a band named LumberJunk proved they were anything but “junk”. They rocked and they rocked hard with melody, soul and rhythm. We liked this band so much we already approached them to be featured on our Emerging Artist Spotlight series – so stay tuned for that.

Ahh the sweet sounds of In My Coma finally! A one hour delay did not throw off this trio as they blasted through songs from Magnets & Miracles – an incredible CD that we strongly endorse and reviewed right here. I remember writing that review and giving the album a 4.5 out of 5, but the songs are even more powerful live. The band also took the chance to roll out a new song that will be featured on their upcoming CD “whenever that may be”. In My Coma is a band of two sides, very hard and uptempo rock anthems and slower tunes approaching ballad territory. The new song was on the slower side. Needless to say it was great to see In My Coma live again, and we already have a mental note to catch them next time they are playing.

Verdict: The T-Mak World rockathon was amazing and all four of the bands we saw rocked and rocked hard. Damn it feels good to be living in a world class city like Toronto!
