Sometimes you just happen to be in the right place at the right time. When you see as many shows as we do, it shouldn’t come as much of a surprise to come across the occasional diamond in the rough. Last night T-MAK World was at the Rockpile to cover Dreamer – The Supertramp Experience, which was an incredible note-for-note Supertramp performance that literally brought a tear to the eye it was so good. A review of that show is here.

But first a brief introduction to opening band JK Mantis. JK Mantis is a quartet of David Fox (Lead Vocals/Guitar), Dario DeCicco (Lead Guitar/Backing Vocals), John DiCenso (Bass) and Steve Konstantarakos (Drums/Backing Vocals).

It is a rare thing to be instantly and unexpectedly blown away by an opening band, but that’s exactly what happened with JK Mantis. Stylistically they might be described as a heavier version of The Tragically Hip, or maybe The Tragically Hip when they’re rocking. Check out the video for their song Waves below. Their whole set was great, but this was the highlight. You can hear more songs at the band’s website here. They’re on facebook at http://www.facebook.com/jkmantis.
