In all 20 movies were shown There were unfortunately no world premieres this year (last year had 3). This year the festival was held at Bloor Hot Docs Cinema which also lets patrons enjoy alcoholic beverages in their seats. Horror movies and beer – mmmm!. Before we wrap up this year’s coverage we thought we would serve up one last article recapping both the festival itself as well as the movies we saw.

Movie recap: This year there were 20 films being shown and we were able to catch 13 of them. The overall quality of the programming was exceptional. This being our second year at this festival we had very high expectations as last year we were blown away. It was slightly disappointing that this year had fewer director Q&A after the screenings though and there were no world premieres but we got over it quickly based on the quality of the programming
In alphabetical order, the movies we saw (with links to our review) were:

    A Fantastic Fear of Everything
    American Mary
    Cockneys vs Zombies
    Grave Encounters 2
    In Their Skin
    My Amitville Horror

Congratulations to everyone involved with Toronto After Dark – all of you collectively delivered an experience that leaves us wanting more. We finish up our coverage with our recommended best of the show.

T-Mak World’s Best of Toronto After Dark 2012

John Dash (Film Critic) – My Amityville Horror, Citadel and Grabbers
Terry Makedon (Editor in Chief) – American Mary, Citadel and Wrong

Since there is only one common movie we humbly declare Citadel as T-Mak World’s best film of TAD 2012 although there were many excellent options across the board

Verdict: This is Toronto’s best film festival for genre movie fans and for 10 days brings us cinematic gems that would have eluded us otherwise. Distributors if you are not paying attention to what is being shown here you are missing out. TAD my good friend – see you in 2013.
