October 2 2012 – Toronto After Dark Film Festival (TAD) is starting October 18th and will feature 20 films this year. This film festival is generally considered as Toronto’s best film festival amongst our editors. We love horror, we love action, we love dark comedies and they are all here! Forget the crap that your local mallplex is playing – I can tell you the ending to any given film – the good guy gets the girl and saves the world. Experience really cool movies with just a hint of geekiness at the Bloor Cinema and you can even have a beer at your seat while watching. T-Mak World STRONGLY recommends TAD.
The Toilet Entrance at TAD 2011 |
Last year was our first experience with TAD and we reviewed 6 films:
- Deadheads (9/10) A funny road trip movie featuring two zombie buddies.
- A Lonely Place to Die (8/10) Part The Descent, part The Bourne Identity.
- Manborg (8/10) Hilarious Robot Chicken type of film featuring a half man/half cyborg.
- The Innkeepers (7/10) Ghost story in a haunted hotel.
- War Of The Dead (7/10) Zombies in World War 2 Nazi bunkers (Castle Wolfenstein anyone?)
- VS (6/10) Four superheroes without powers have to save a town and themselves.
The T-Mak World verdict of TAD 2011 was:
Film makers put this one on your radar and bring your premieres here! Distributors please attend and show the rest of the world these gems. Movie fans – Be here next year. (Note to self – attend ALL the movies next year). Overall the festival experience at TAD is absolutely mind-blowingly awesome.
Our goal still stands to review all 20 movies this year and with 4 film critics planning to hit TAD this year we just may hit that goal! To kick things off we also interviewed Adam Lopez – the man behind TAD and you can read that here.
Our initial disappointment at a lack of World Premieres was quickly overcome when we started watching the trailers. The three movies that look the most promising for us are: CRAVE, CITADEL, and WRONG so read on to find out why. Without further ado here are all the 20 films of Toronto After Dark 2012 in order of screening.
