June 10 2012 – Pop rockers Secret Broadcast played to a packed house at the Rivoli on Saturday June 9th 2012 to celebrate the release of their EP, Hungry Ghost. Secret Broadcast appreciates the support of their fans, so much so that they’re taking the unheard of step of thanking each and every one of them, personally! In a press release, Secret Broadcast announced:
Some bands will have contests with one lucky winner winning a phone call from their favourite band. Toronto-based band Secret Broadcast are doing one better. Doing the unthinkable, the band will be calling every single person that buys a copy of their new EP, Hungry Ghost to thank them.
Who will it be calling? Vocalist and Guitarist Matt Lightstone? Drummer Keith Heppler? Jeffrey Lewis from the Bass Guitar? It’ll be a surprise!
Matt Lightstone said on this quite time-consuming, but happily doable idea, “Our fans are really important to us and we want to do everything we can to connect with them. This seems like a natural, fun way of accomplishing that goal.”
[All] Secret Broadcast fans in Canada need to do is buy a physical copy of the new EP, available in stores now, and send an email with your phone number to the email address underneath the CD. The band will take care of the rest, and even pick up the long-distance charges.

The band was formed in 2006 in Calgary and released their debut album Exploding Spiders in 2009. In 2010, they relocated to Toronto. On their EP Hungry Ghost, they worked with acclaimed producer Jon Drew, who has worked with the Arkells and Tokyo Police Club amongst many others.

They played a high energy show on Saturday that had the crowd hopping (and the floor shaking) to their catchy songs. The band loves the support of their fans so much that at the end of the show they took to crowd play alongside them. Drummer Keith Heppler carried his floor tom to the center of the room and played a brief solo there. Frontman Lightstone followed, playing guitar and singing with the fans on the floor. The entire show was being filmed for use in upcoming videos so stay tuned to their website and Twitter (@secretbroadcast).

Secret Broadcast will be upstairs at the El Mocambo on Friday June 15th at 9 pm as part of NXNE so this was a great opportunity to preview the band. Judging by the high energy performance and enthusiastic crowd, the NXNE show is one not to be missed.
