April 5 2016 – Monster Truck for a 3 song set at a private event showcasing Ontario music? Yes please.
March 23 2016 was a celebration of music in Toronto. In celebration of the Ontario music industry’s success as supported by the Ontario Music Fund (OMF), the Mod Club in Toronto held a showcase which was hosted by fiery and very entertaining Jully Black.
The stage was graced by both politicians and musicians. The following appeared:
- The Hon. Michael Coteau, Minister of Tourism, Culture & Sport (who announced the fund is now permanent)
- Mark Sakamoto, OMDC Chair
- Karen Thorne-Stone, OMDC President and CEO
- Featured artists:
- A Tribe Called Red (DJ)
- Mehdi Cayenne
- Peter Katz
- SATE
- Monster Truck
For us at T-Mak World the opportunity to see 2 of our favourite performers in the city proved too good to pass. Off we went to interview and watch SATE and Monster Truck. Monster Truck delivered an energetic set but we were able to hit them up before they got on stage and here is our video chat with Jon Harvey and Jeremy Widerman of Monster Truck:
As luck wold have it one of our top 10 artists of 2015 was also on the bill as SATE delivered an equally impressive performance of pure energy. We were offered a last minute interview with her which of course we jumped at. Here is the interview with SATE at the OMDC showcase:
As much as most of us dislike and distrust politicians, when the government supports arts and in particular music we take notice and applaud the support. The dynamics of the industry has changed such that the major record labels are unable to print money like they used to a couple of decades ago, and as an end result we see music being transformed to mass produced candy pop which takes the art of the music and dumbs it down to the mass consumption level. A true state of modern times but with a little help artists like Monster Truck and SATE do have a chance to get out in front of people – so thank you OMDC from all real music fans.
