May 10, 2013: The Rockpile was the scene on Saturday for the return of Pink Floyd tribute band, Floyd Factor. T-MAK World first caught their show in March, see review here. Like their first show, Floyd Factor didn’t disappoint.
Starting with Shine On You Crazy Diamond Part 1, followed with a rendition of One of These Days off of the album Meddle that featured dual basses with guitarist Andre Fillipetti grabbing a bass and joining bass player Chris Hume. Floyd Factor then delighted those in attendance with the 2nd side of Meddle in the epic prog rock classic Echoes. It’s always good to see a cover band that has the guts to not only play the classics but the more challenging longer songs. Floyd Factor then finished the first set off with a trio of songs from The Wall.
The second set started with songs from Dark Side of the Moon including Chloe Watkinson nailing the vocals on Great Gig in the Sky. Her father Terry Watkinson, the keyboards wizard of Max Webster, handled the saxophone parts on Money as well as Shine On You Crazy Diamond. After a return to Wish You Were Here, Floyd Factor hit the mark with Dogs and Sheep which showcased keyboardist Alan Zemaitis before ending the show with great versions of Comfortably Numb and Run Like Hell that had the audience cheering for more.
As any Floyd fan would expect, guitarists Fillipetti and Robert Sparrow both had opportunities to shine. Their amazing note for note renditions of the solos throughout the sets were definite crowd pleasers drawing rousing ovations from the audience.
Not only was Floyd Factor a pleasure for the ears, but the videos and lasers added to the visual presentation from this outstanding Floyd cover band.
Verdict: 4 out of 5. Floyd Factor continues to show they provide a very complete Floyd experience and we hope they continue to make The Rockpile a regular place to play.
