Zepology |
February 24, 2013 – If it could be said that T-MAK World was an authority on anything, it would be Led Zeppelin cover bands. We’ve seen seven Zeppelin tribute bands over the past year. Make it eight with the addition of an incredible performance by Zepology at The Duke’s on Queen Street East on Saturday night. Zepology is Garry McDougall on guitar, Nello Virdo on vocals, Tim Haynes on bass and keyboards and Jason Kuz on drums.
Garry McDougall |
Any band that plays Zeppelin songs will live or die by their guitarist and Garry McDougall makes Zepology shine, not only in note for note precision playing but also an unusual attention to details, like fills in Bring it On Home and the theremin in No Quarter. He also played the bow section of Dazed And Confused perfectly.
Tim Haynes |
Nello Virdo |
The rhythm section of Haynes and Kuz was as tight as any, with each taking a turn in the spotlight, Haynes with a note for note rendition of the extended Song Remains the Same version of No Quarter and Kuz with a great Moby Dick. Highlight of the night was a near perfect rendition of The Lemon Song which singer Virdo absolutely nailed.
Kuz and Virdo |
The band played for over an hour and a half in their diverse second set of the night. Looking forward to seeing Zepology again in the near future to see the full set.
Garry McDougall |
It was the first T-MAK World visit to The Duke. It’s a great music venue in an historic building that opened in 1870. While the food wasn’t sampled, it had a great menu and the kitchen was open late. Best of all, the beer was cheap.
