Stone River at The Hideout |
Dec 31 2012 – We recently featured Stone River in our Emerging Artist Spotlight series here. When asked why a music fan should come out to see them on any given night they told us “We are not a 2-piece electro-pop act or an alt country band. Since that covers about 95% of the bands in this city these days, they’ll be in for a surprise. This is straight up Rock n Roll with all the expected fixings”. Well it just so happens that we do much prefer straight up Rock n Roll and any band that lists Zeppelin as their influence surely will peaked our interest.
The 2 set show at The Hideout was phenomenal in it’s raw rock sound as well as incredible vocal strength. Stone River were having fun tonight and it was infectious. Often we see bands that get up on stage, give it their all and walk off the stage, without ever connecting with their audience. Bands like TimeGiant and In My Coma that we cover alot on T-Mak World totally get in touch with the people in front of them and tonight we saw Stone River do the same. The band played a selection of originals as well as covers from Led Zeppelin, The Rolling Stones and The Allman Brothers. Overall a very satisfying night of riff filled music and true to their word – Stone River did indeed deliver straight up Rock n Roll. If I had to draw a similarity I would say Stone River sounds like The Black Crowes ala jam band style.
Verdict: One of the best bar shows of 2012!
